Woodstock
Hardware was founded in 1953 by Mr. Gordon Anderson and named Anderson
Hardware. The store was designed by Mr. Anderson and famed Woodstock
artist In 1976 Anderson’s Hardware was sold to Mr. Carl Mellin and renamed Woodstock Hardware. Customers my remember that Mr. Mellin actually had a Radio Shack franchiseinside Woodstock Hardware. Carl Mellin operated the store for four years and sold the store to Messers. Ralph Goneau and Dick Wilhelm in 1980. Ralph and Richard operated the store for the next fourteen years until January 01, 1994. In 1994, Vincent
Christofora Jr. retired from his professional environmental career

On the night of December 03, 2007 there was a tragic fire and Woodstock Hardware was lost. Thankfully the store was closed at the time so nobody was hurt. Through the winter of 2008 the store was rebuilt, remolded, and updated. Completing this effort required emptying the store so the building could be stripped down to the bare concrete block walls. This task was completed by the stores faithful employees, and a team of generous volunteers. Vince will always have Loren Rose, Walt Anderson, Howard Shultis, Bob Sylvester, Stewart Dewitt, Bill Durkin, Captain Mike, and Stock excavating to thank for helping his family through a rough time. On April 01, 2008 Woodstock Hardware reopened it’s door for business as Woodstock Do-it Best Hardware. Upon reopening, Woodstock Hardware was grateful to find that our loyal customers returned to the store for their hardware needs. During that first year an intense effort was made to not only restore the store's core hardware departments but also to add many new specialty departments. In May and June of 2009 Woodsotck Hardware further expanded our specialty product lines and opened its new fishing tackle shop and introduced our new Farm Maintenance & Large Animal Care Catalog. |

Vincent R. Christofora Jr., Ciriculum Vitae From an early age Vince was exposed to the retail business. Whether it was working for his parents in their Olivebridge Store, the old Woodstock Grand Union in his high school days, or again for his parents, during his college days, at Woodstock Meats, Vince learned the retail business from the best and from the bottom up! After graduating college Vince worked as a civil and environmental engineer. He specialized in the design and construction of multi-million dollar water and wastewater collection, treatment, and discharge systems throughout the United States. Vince’s project work included cleaning up polluted sites along Cape Cod, the Chesapeake Bay, and at many industrial sites. During his years Vince became one of the Country’s leading experts on small community wastewater collection systems and lectured for the USEPA. Vince’s last position in the engineering field, before purchasing Woodstock Hardware, included managing an office for the third largest engineering consulting firm in the world. In 1994 Vince purchased Woodstock Hardware and has worked hard to create a full service hardware store that meets the needs of the local community. Upon returning to Woodstock and assuming ownership of Woodstock Hardware, Vince has offered his engineering technical expertise to several not for profit organizations in Woodstock. Together with a group of dedicated volunteers Vince worked almost ten years to design and build the seasonal peformance center at the Woodstock Playhouse. Vince has also volunteered for the Woodstock Guild and for Woodstock’s Company No. 5 Rescue Squad and through Woodstock Hardware supports many of the Town’s art and volunteer organizations. In the past fifteen years Vince has either served as the general contractor or has actually constructed millions of dollars worth of residential and commercial projects. This includes apartments, custom built homes, rental properties, and commercial retail buildings. During this time Vince has become experienced in all, and trained in many, phases of these projects. This includes; demolition, foundations, framing, insulating, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, roofing, finish carpentry, painting, and landscaping. So the next time Vince recommends a product or method for completing a specific project task he most likely is speaking from past experience. Experiences that include learning from the local masters and experiences obtained from “learning the hard way.” No matter which way, Vince will be glad to pass on his experience to help you successfully complete your next project, avoiding costly mistakes along the way. All questions and inquiries are welcomed. Please feel free to ASK VINCE about your project or task and we welcome you to Share Your Stories with us on our Doing It Best in Woodstock NY community page. |
